Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
